Somerset County Public Schools' Maryland Youth Apprenticeship Program is a partnership with the Maryland Department of Labor and local employers. This program offers Career & Technical Education (CTE) students the chance to "learn while they earn," providing valuable work experience. Many employers participate to help grow their own workforce.

The program is open to 11th and 12th-grade students interested in gaining hands-on experience and pursuing a career in their chosen industry after graduation. Available apprenticeship positions and employers are listed under the "Current Openings" section of this page. Students can apply using the application at this link, and completed forms should be submitted to the SCPS Apprenticeship Maryland Facilitator. Employers review applications and select students to interview, similar to a typical job process.

If chosen, students work in paid, part-time positions under the joint supervision of the employer/mentor and the school’s Apprenticeship Maryland Facilitator. Most students are scheduled for two ninety-minute apprenticeship periods during the school day, earning two credits per semester. Apprentices must arrange their own transportation.
