Board Members
The Board of Education of Somerset County concerns itself primarily with broad questions of policy and governance rather than with administrative details. Student Board Representatives
Student Board Representatives are non-voting members of the Somerset Board of Education. Student representatives gather information from their schools each month to share during Board meetings. They may also be asked to serve on system-level committees as student representatives. In addition, they are encouraged to relay information about Board activities back to their high school communities.
Eligible high school students are invited to apply, and school counselors forward completed applications to the Supervisor of Social Studies.Interviews are conducted on both ends of the county and typically include the high school principal, school counselor, Supervisor of Social Studies, and a Central Office administrator. Candidates are evaluated using a point system, considering the applicant's maturity, reliability, and availability. Final selections are made collaboratively by the principal and Supervisor of Social studies, with approval from the superintendent.
