PRINCESS ANNE, MD, May 10, 2023 – Washington Academy & High School’s (WAHS) Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club was recently named a National Chapter of Merit; a recognition given by the Chief Executive Officer of the National SADD organization to a local chapter that has consistently provided engaging programming, policy and outreach efforts to make a lasting impact on its school and community.
The National Chapter of Merit was awarded to WAHS SADD for their notable efforts to raise awareness on the issues of automobile safety, substance abuse, mental health and leadership development. Earlier in the school year, WAHS welcomed the National SADD leadership team for a visit to the school, offering students the opportunity to engage and learn about new initiatives that promote safety and wellness among the student body. Students received an invitation to attend the 2023 National SADD Conference in Washington, DC in July, and a custom t-shirt to commemorate the occasion.
WAHS SADD also recently won 4th place for the National Organization for Youth Safety (NOYS) for the “Seat Belt Saves” contest, earning a $500 cash prize. This is the 3rd year in a row WAHS SADD has received cash awards from the NOYS contest for spreading awareness of seat belt safety.
WAHS SADD Chapter Advisor and School Nurse, Lynne Brumley shared, “Thank you to the National SADD organization and the National Organization for Youth Safety for your support and recognition of our club. The attention our chapter at Washington High School has received in the last year has exceeded our expectations and inspired the students of SADD to set bigger goals in the years to come.”
