WESTOVER, MD, May 25, 2023 – The Somerset County Technical High School (SCTHS) Culinary Arts Program, presented by CTE instructor Chef Chris Ferrell held a welcome reception earlier this month to commemorate the start of the program’s reaccreditation process with the American Culinary Federation (ACF). In attendance were program judges, school administration, district leadership, former students, and retired faculty. A gourmet meal was prepared and served by Culinary Arts Students and Chef Ferrell.
Prior to the opening of SCTHS, Somerset County Public Schools’ Culinary Arts Program resided at the J.M. Tawes Career & Technical School where it received ACF accreditation for the first time in 2014 by former Culinary Arts Program Instructor, Chef Jim Washington. The reaccreditation process entails an extensive assessment of the program’s curriculum, instruction methods and a site visit. The process should conclude in July of 2023.
Chef Ferrell shared, “We were proud to welcome the ACF judges to SCTHS to kick-off the reaccreditation process. The students really enjoyed welcoming our guests and demonstrating the skills they have learned in the Culinary Arts Program.”
