PRINCESS ANNE, MD, December 6, 2023 – The food pantry program at Greenwood Elementary School recently received a $2,000 "mini-grant" from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES). Karen Smiley, School Community Liaison at Greenwood Elementary, applied for the grant to fund the school’s food pantry and provide snacks for students participating in the afterschool tutoring program.
Linda Kinhart, Reading Intervention Teacher at Greenwood Elementary, manages the school’s food pantry, replenishing the shelves with food ordered from the Maryland Food Bank. Students have the opportunity to take home a bag of food twice per month after deliveries are made.
Ms. Kinhart shared, “this school year alone, six deliveries totaling 6,684 pounds of food have been delivered from the Maryland Food Bank. The total dollar amount in orders exceeds $5,000, all of which been covered by donations and grant funds received from community partners like CFES.”
