An approaching storm is expected to bring heavy rain, high winds and flood conditions to Somerset County beginning Tuesday afternoon, January 9, 2024. The weather system creates the potential for school delays and closures in the coming days. To avoid prolonging the '23-24 school year with the addition of make-up days in June, SCPS intends to convert the next three (3) inclement weather closure days to asynchronous virtual school days, if necessary.
Asynchronous virtual school days do not include live instruction, and do not require a home internet connection. Before dismissal on Tuesday, grades PreK-3 through 2nd will receive paper assignments, and 3rd through 12th grades will receive assignments in Google Classroom that will be downloaded to their SCPS-issued devices. To be marked present on an asynchronous school day, students must complete and submit the provided assignments. For additional information, click here to read SCPS' '23-24 Virtual Day Instruction Plan, and contact your student's school with questions.
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes students and families, knowing that in-person instruction is preferred whenever we can safely transport students to and from school. Please attend to future messages as the approaching storm reaches our area.
