WESTOVER, MD (November 13, 2024) – Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) educators were recently awarded $20,994 in competitive Education Grants from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) at the recent Education Grants Award Ceremony hosted at Dove Pointe in Salisbury. The CFES Education Grants, awarded through a rigorous selection process, empower local educators to bring unique initiatives to life, fostering enriched learning environments and opportunities for students.
This year’s recipients in Somerset County have developed programs that range from attendance improvement initiatives to STEM engagement, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and creativity in education.
“We are incredibly proud of our educators for their hard work and dedication to developing impactful programs,” said Dr. Tasker-Mitchell, Superintendent of SCPS. “These grants from CFES will help bring innovative ideas to our classrooms, enhancing both learning and student well-being.”

These projects reflect the commitment of SCPS educators to enhancing student-centered learning and supporting student well-being, and are anticipated to have a meaningful impact on students and school communities across the county. Rebecca Johnson of Crisfield Academy & High School received a $4,975 grant award to create a school incentive program to improve attendance and academic achievement.
Zachary Bartemy of Somerset County Technical High School received a $2,780 grant award to facilitate the integration of the school’s Engineering and Robotics programs.
Paula Fisher of Somerset County Technical High School received a $4,992 grant award to offer community health training in CPR, First Aid, AED and Stop the Bleed techniques.
Kelsey Allen of Somerset Intermediate School received a $4,000 grant award to host a science fair to promote STEM education.
Mallory Harman of Somerset Intermediate School received a $4,247 grant award to acquire specialized furniture to support small group learning.
