WESTOVER, MD (February 21, 2025)  – Students from Somerset County Technical High School recently showcased their skills and dedication at the 2025 SkillsUSA Regional Competition, held at Parkside High School in Salisbury. Competing against students from across the Eastern Shore, Somerset’s future workforce demonstrated excellence in their respective trades, bringing home multiple medals.

Leading the way were Samantha "Blair" N. and Harmony C., both earning Gold medals in their competitions. Blair took first place in Carpentry, building on her past success—having won Bronze at Regionals last year and finishing just outside the medals at the state level. Harmony, the school's SkillsUSA Chapter President, successfully defended her title in Culinary Arts, becoming the first back-to-back Gold medalist in her category from Somerset County.

Also making a strong showing in the Masonry competition were Trevor E. and Amah-Ru C. Trevor, in his first year competing in SkillsUSA, brought home a Silver medal, an impressive feat given the increased competition. Amah-Ru, who won Bronze last year, finished just out of the medals in a highly competitive field of 12 contestants.

This year’s Regional Championships saw greater participation due to the addition of Queen Anne’s County, which joined Somerset, Wicomico, Dorchester, and Worcester counties in the event. The increased competition only added to the significance of Somerset County’s achievements.

The success of these students would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of their instructors, Ms. Lisa Ward and Mr. Joseph Webster, who have played a crucial role in training and mentoring these young professionals. Their commitment to excellence continues to elevate Somerset County Technical High School’s standing in career and technical education.

“These students have worked hard to hone their skills, and their performances at Regionals are a testament to their dedication and the outstanding instruction they receive,” said Mrs. Cortney Monar, Principal at Somerset County Technical High School. “We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to their continued success at the state level.”
