This morning, Somerset County Public Schools was honored to welcome Maryland State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright and Maryland State Board of Education Member Mr. Chet Chesterfield to Crisfield!
Their visit began at Crisfield Academy & High School, where they met with school leadership and observed instruction in Ms. Justice’s Algebra class and Ms. Smith’s ELA III class. They then headed to Carter G. Woodson Elementary School to visit Mrs. Carey’s first grade classroom and observe math instruction in Ms. Kinder-Young’s third grade class.
We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the incredible teaching and learning happening in our Crisfield schools. Thank you, Dr. Wright and Mr. Chesterfield, for your time, your insight, and your support of Maryland’s students!

🌟 Kamryn N. (WHS Junior) – Named a 2025 Emerging Scholar and a 2025 "18 Under 18" recipient by Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore!
🏈 Develle M. (WHS Senior) – Signed his National Letter of Intent to play football for Brevard College on an NCAA scholarship—the first WHS student to earn an NCAA scholarship since 2018!

Somerset County Public Schools is opening on time today, Thursday, March 20, 2025. Some local news stations have mistakenly reported a delay, but all schools and offices are open at their normal time. Today is an early dismissal day: Elementary at 12:30pm, Secondary at 11:30am.

📢 State Board of Education Members Visit SCPS!
Today, we welcomed Maryland State Board of Education Chair Dr. Joshua Michael, new State Board Member, Mr. Alverne "Chet" Chesterfield , and Student Representative Abhiram Gaddam to Somerset Intermediate School and Washington Academy & High School!
Mr. Chesterfield, a former Somerset BOE member, enjoyed returning to familiar grounds, while Abhiram, from neighboring Wicomico County Public Schools, brought the student perspective to the visit. Our guests had the opportunity to engage with students and faculty, gaining insight into the incredible work happening in our schools.

Woodson Elementary students wowed us with their creativity and knowledge at the "Creature Feature" Title I event! 🎨📚 From lush rainforests to icy tundras, students designed dioramas of animal habitats, showcasing their research and artistic skills. 🏞️🐾
