WESTOVER, MD, November 14, 2023 – Somerset County Public Schools’ (SCPS) educators recently received over $9,000 in educational grants from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES). CFES Education Grants are awarded annually in conjunction with National Education Week through a competitive process to public and private grade schools on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. Funding is directed towards schools that have developed innovative programs to enhance education and improve the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of their students and communities. Recipients were honored at an awards ceremony hosted at the James M. Bennett High School Auditorium on November 9, 2023.
Instructional Facilitator at Deal Island Elementary School, Kari Pusey, was awarded $4,186 to support “ABC, 123, Learn With Me;” an innovative way for parents to visit their child’s classroom, learn academic vocabulary, observe their child in a social setting, and assess their gross and fine motor skills with guidance from a school professional.
Testing Coordinator at Crisfield Academy & High School, Rebecca Johnson, was awarded $2,500 to support an incentive program aimed at improving student’s performance on standardized tests.
Math Facilitator at Washington Academy & High School, Thomas Johnson, was awarded $2,500 to support an incentive program for Algebra Readiness and Algebra I students.
