Good evening Woodson Wave Families, this is Liz Berry with some messages for the upcoming week.  Congratulations to our Student of the Week: Keith Parker.  Keith is a 5th grader and is a great role model setting the example for others.  A huge shout out to our 5th grade teacher, Mr. Grayson Laird.  Mr. Laird is doing an outstanding job of engaging his students with lots of hands-on activities.

Please send your child with a water bottle, so they can get water from the water coolers.  Please also send your child with a school appropriate sweater or crewneck sweatshirt for them to wear in class as the weather is getting cooler.  These items must be a solid uniform color and cannot have a logo.  Outer wear such as coats are not permitted to be worn in the classrooms.

This Tuesday, October 17th is the monthly Board of Education meeting.  Parents and Guardians are welcome to attend.  The session open to the public begins at 6:00 pm.

October is Bully Prevention month and October 18th is Unity day.  Woodson will be celebrating unity day by encouraging our students to wear orange.  Students can wear an orange top, but must wear uniform bottoms.  By choosing to wear orange on this day we are celebrating kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.  At Woodson we follow the Woodson Way to be respectful and we help make our school a safe and caring place to be.

Please join us this Thursday evening, October 19th from 5-7:00 pm for our annual Trunk or Treat and Curriculum Event.  Students will receive math materials and can choose books of interest to read and take with them.  See the teachers dress up as their favorite characters and have Walking Dead Tacos for dinner.

There will be no school this coming Friday, October 20th.  All Somerset County Public Schools will be closed for the Maryland State Education Association Convention.

Student application forms for our after school tutoring program will be sent home with students and are due back by Wednesday, October 18th. Please be advised that if parents complete the form, not all students will be accepted into our program. Due to specific funding, data will be analyzed to screen out students who are in need of most of our program. The After School Tutoring Program is expected to start October 24th and will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:05-6:05. We are working to provide transportation for our students as well. We will be sending updates as we collect applications from parents and students.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to this message.  Have a good evening.
