Today, we welcomed Maryland State Board of Education Chair Dr. Joshua Michael, new State Board Member, Mr. Alverne "Chet" Chesterfield , and Student Representative Abhiram Gaddam to Somerset Intermediate School and Washington Academy & High School!
Mr. Chesterfield, a former Somerset BOE member, enjoyed returning to familiar grounds, while Abhiram, from neighboring Wicomico County Public Schools, brought the student perspective to the visit. Our guests had the opportunity to engage with students and faculty, gaining insight into the incredible work happening in our schools.

Woodson Elementary students wowed us with their creativity and knowledge at the "Creature Feature" Title I event! 🎨📚 From lush rainforests to icy tundras, students designed dioramas of animal habitats, showcasing their research and artistic skills. 🏞️🐾
Families and guests explored these incredible student exhibitions, celebrating the hard work and dedication that went into each project. 👏✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us to support our young scientists and artists!

The Somerset Board of Education will hold a Special Closed Session Meeting on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at 5:30 PM. The meeting will begin in open session for the sole purpose of considering a motion to enter closed session to consult with legal counsel.

Schools will open after a 2-hour delay, Friday, Feb. 21, due to icy road conditions. 12-month staff should report after the delay & essential staff reports on time. Please be safe & attend to future updates.

The Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee (SECAC) event scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025 at 5:00 PM has been POSTPONED due to expected inclement weather during the evening hours. The rescheduled date will announced soon.

February 15 is National School Resource Officer Day, a time to recognize and appreciate the critical role School Resource Officers (SROs) play in maintaining safety and fostering positive relationships within schools. SROs not only protect students, staff, and school communities but also serve as mentors and role models, helping to build trust and mutual respect.
